Seven years ago I was in a devastating car accident. They didn’t know if I was going to live, or even walk again. I suffered from a crushed pelvis and multiple other injuries. I spent almost nine months the hospital and over the course of three years endured 15 surgeries to correct multiple fractures and other complications. During one of the surgeries something happened to my right leg leaving me to deal with neuropathy and foot drop. My left hip was replaced after my crushed pelvis was rebuilt. I was a Physical Therapists’ nightmare. I spent the first four years of my recovery working with Physical Therapists on land and in water. The work was difficult and some days it seemed like my hour would never come to an end. I made some progress–I was able to move about freely in my wheelchair and could transfer from it to another chair. After four years, I felt as if I should be doing more. I was stuck in a rut and didn’t know where to turn.
My friend told me about Namasté and Integrative Fitness. I was skeptical. A Personal Trainer for me? I could barely walk, much less train. But my friend assured me this was the right choice. I scheduled my consultation with Namasté almost three years ago and I have been working out with her ever since. Namasté took me from a wheelchair to a walker and finally a cane in less than eight months! What astonished me about Namasté is her quick understanding of what I was capable of her grasp of my mental state and her knowledge of the human body. She showed me how she could help me increase my strength, balance and flexibility. She understood my limitations and knew that a half hour workout was best for me. Each time I work with Namasté I really enjoy myself. It’s like my morning cup of coffee. I just gotta have it! Even after three years my workouts are fun; challenging and helping me achieve my fitness goals. Now that I’m walking, with Namasté’s help I’m focusing on increasing my endurance. Next year I hope to be able to walk one or two laps at the Santa Cruz Relay for Life. I know with Integrative Fitness I can!
